LaKeisha Burroughs

Counseling Intern

I am from Birmingham, Alabama, and I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Miles College in 2000. After graduating, I realized my purpose was to work with adolescents. In 2005, I began my professional career in social services at the Department of Youth Services, where I worked in direct care with juvenile delinquents until 2015.

In 2016, I transitioned to the Department of Human Resources, where I served families. During my time at DHR, I worked in the Family Preservation and CANS departments and with a specialized program called “Family Wellness Court.”

To further expand my knowledge and ability to serve others, I decided to pursue my master’s degree in social work. I am currently enrolled at Alabama A&M University, working toward this goal.

My passion lies in making a positive impact on the lives of others with respect, dignity, integrity, and hope through both action and deed. My mission is to serve others with a pure heart.

I plan to work with adolescents and individuals suffering from addiction. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, shopping, and traveling.
